ST. PAUL, Minnesota (CNN) — Bristol Palin, the 17-year-old daughter of Sarah Palin, is pregnant and will keep the baby and marry the father, a senior aide to Sen. John McCain confirmed to CNN Tuesday.

Republican presidential candidate McCain was aware of Bristol Palin’s pregnancy before he chose her mother for his running mate, the aide said.

“Senator McCain knew this and felt in no way did it disqualify her from being vice president,” said the aide. “Families have difficulties sometimes, and lucky for her she has a supportive family.”

The 17-year-old, a senior in high school, is about five months along, in her second trimester, according to the aide.

The aide said it was decided the campaign would reveal this information now because of rampant Internet rumors that Sarah Palin’s 4-month-old baby, who has Down syndrome, was actually Bristol’s.

“In the course of correcting that, we needed to get the truth out,” said the McCain aide. iReport.com: Share your thoughts

Sarah and Todd Palin issued a statement saying they are “proud of Bristol’s decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents.”

“We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us,” the statement said. “Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned.”

“Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family,” the statement said.

The Palins also asked the media to respect their daughter’s privacy.

The McCain aide insisted a key point to keep in mind is that Bristol decided to keep the baby, a decision “supported by her parents

We should leave Pailin’s daughter alone; and we can even leave Pailin alone. The person we should not leave alone is John McC who has clearly failed what everyone agrees is a Pres. candidate’s first test: choosing a capable VP. John McC has many fine qualities, but even those who know him best question his temperament and tendency toward recklessness. He inadequately vetted this choice. He put the country at risk, since there is no way we can answer the “Is she ready?” question in just two months, when she will give scripted speeches and appear in one debate. She may be capable; she may not be. We won’t know on the first Tuesday in November, and that is reckless.

The girl is not pregnant (anymore) , her mother had her baby. Soon we will hear that Cacey (I mean Bristol) had a miscarriage. Mrs. Anthony (I mean Mrs. Palin), according to reports I’ve read, never showed signs of being pregnant, whereas the daughter was out of school for months. DUH! Even that idiot (KKK{arl})Rove said she (Palin) looked good after just having a baby.
What a crock. Will those Repubs ever stop their lies and deceit. Probably Not.

How ridiculous to suggest that Mr. Obama should select Hillary. That is a decision for him to make on the basis of whom he deems best to help HIM govern.

You should not select a VP as a political ploy to garner votes. This is about managing and operating a nation. It is about putting country first and politics in the background, something republican know nothing about.

The reason McCain picked Ms. Palin was purely political. Now look what a mess that has become. Why would you pick someone you only meet once in your life as your successor? That is a question of judgment.

McCain is no maverick; he allowed himself to be boxed in be Rush Hudson Limbaugh and the rightwing of the Republican Party to make a stupid decision for political gain.

There was nothing calculated about this decision, again an ambitious old man who may be senile shooting from the hip. Question: envision his sitting across the talk using the McSame decision-making skills.

Maybe republican would have been better served telling McCain who he should have selected.

The real test is, who will breast feed Trig? I would bet that Mrs. Palin can only give him air.

Thank you Antq. I’ve always felt that the new three stooges: Lushy (Lush Rimbaugh), Bore (Sean Hannity) and Surly (Mark Levine) would have their influence somehow. NOTE: the difference between Reactive and Proactive can be summed up in two words: McCain and Obama, respectively.
